Crazy Shrooms
(Best viewed large and on black)
This image was shot on Day 2 of the Drew Gardner Location Lighting workshop in Belgium.
The basic task was to make in image in lieu of Drew’s amazing “Forest” series. The 12 participants split up into 2 groups and scouted the nearby woods for locations to shoot.
Our group decided to shoot a different set per photographer. My set was setup and shot in under an hour, due to the time constraints that arose during the afternoon.
It is obviously a composite of 4 images (my first composite to be quite frank), each shot with a 14mm wide-angle lens, 3 Elinchrom Ranger units (one to camera far right and one straight in the back as barebulb backlights, one in a Chimera medium softbox to camera left) and one Nikon SB900 speedlight (as an accent light for the mushrooms in the front). The rest is lit by ambient light, underexposed by about two stops.
